Jackson House continues to innovate to ensure that the unique needs of the area are met with prudent use of resources. Service delivery is carefully planned to be a positive experience for all involved.During 2025, over 730 volunteers and a small staff provided services over 601,000 times to 68,000 unduplicated individuals. They distributed 1.4 million pounds of food, 71,000 lunches were served, and a new record of 1,617 children (birth to 18 years old) were given generous Christmas bags including warmth items, toiletry needs, books, toys and other goodies meeting needs.Their families were given groceries, lunches, household items and many other services as warranted. Without the support and resources of our community, this wouldn%u2019t be possible. Jackson House also gave away $232,000 value in free items through the Thrift Store to people in crisis.Jackson House partners with churches, organizations, businesses, donors, individuals, schools, agencies, foundations, local, state and federal agencies, and others to continue this important work. Jackson House provides for their needs as they make this important step.Jackson House has worked for 20-plus years to assist in the local need for a community center where all services are offered without the hardship of participants having to go to multiple agencies. Jackson House provides a training location for AARP, TEA, works with schools and courts of people needing to do community service, so it is very connected within its community in a variety of ways. Working with local entities and the city of Hot Springs is a main goal in developing and meeting current community needs.%u201cIt is a privilege for all of us in our community to work together to help ease suffering,%u201d says Executive Director Janie Smith. Most of our needy are working families living paycheck to paycheck. One small disaster can be the catalyst to losing their homes, transportation, etc. Keeping them in their homes, able to get to work, saves the community untold dollars in services and helps keep the tax base solid as well. The children have hope for their future which indeed affects us all. The Census stated that one in three people in Garland County face food shortages. These include our seniors (one in six according to the AARP), veterans, disabled, working class, and housing challenged. We lack affordable housing as well with up to a three-year wait for public housing assistance. Additionally, every 51 seconds a child is born into poverty in Arkansas. Jackson House continues to work for solutions.A recent example of its work: a family%u2019s home was burned to the ground with everything they owned, including their car. The father was injured and wasn%u2019t able to provide for his children. Jackson House assured that each child was well gifted, food was given, and he and his family were able to celebrate together.%u201cThese aren%u2019t just stories, these are real life situations, your friends, neighbors, coworkers, family, that Jackson House strives to improve through our resources provided by our community,%u201d Smith said.Jackson House wishes to thank everyone for their part in giving hope, love, and necessities to people in great need. The difference being made in warmth, not cold; fed, not hungry; clothed and housed rather than otherwise. The difference is you. Please join it as it strives to provide needed and better services.
