These women organize the livestock exhibitions, raise funds for awards, recruit premium sale buyers and solicit restaurants to provide meals for the exhibitors every night of the fair.Each year, the youths declare the Junior Livestock Show the %u201cBest Year Ever,%u201d Garland County Farm Bureau President Keith Rucker said.These young people spend a great amount of time caring for their animals and preparing them for the fair. Show livestock includes cattle, swine, goats, sheep, rabbits and chickens. The exhibitors vie for buckles, ribbons and an opportunity to be included in the premium sale. Premium buyers do not actually take possession of the livestock but bid for a chance to reward the youth for the time and expense spent in raising and preparing their animals for the show.Promoting agriculture in the local area is the primary goal of the Garland County Farm Bureau Federation, through education, legislation, scholarships and other endeavors. The Women%u2019s Committee plays a major role in charitable projects to benefit the community.Farm Bureau memberships do not require the purchase of insurance.
